About IOG Resources
IOG Resources (IOGR) is a Dallas-based investment firm founded in 2014. Since 2017, the firm has operated in partnership with First Reserve, which serves as the controlling member of its board. The firm manages multiple large investment vehicles focused on non-operated oil and gas investments and structured drilling capital across the lower-48 and has deployed more than $1 billion in gross capital.
The Opportunity
The Senior Vice President of Engineering is the chief engineering position for a well-established A&D platform with both disciplined capital backing and active deal flow across major North American onshore basins. The role will lead the technical team, work closely with Finance, Land, and Business Development, and own the firm's technical view across acquisitions, portfolio monitoring, and reserves: the primary source of confidence that every forecast, valuation, and capital decision is supported by rigorous and defensible work.
The incoming SVP will overlap with the outgoing SVP of Engineering through their planned retirement, providing a runway to transfer relationships, models, and institutional knowledge. IOGR continually modernizes its use of data and AI; the SVP engages with that process, assesses what is in place, and helps design the future trajectory across forecasting, deal evaluation, and surveillance workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Technical evaluation of upstream oil and gas assets: forecasting, type curves, cost modeling, and upside characterization across producing and undeveloped assets primarily in the largest onshore lower-48 basins.
Portfolio monitoring and well-level forecasting, including prompt responses to material performance changes.
Management of reserves, including the annual third-party engineering firm evaluation.
Technical sections of quarterly board materials and direct engagement with operating partners.
Lead technical liaison to First Reserve on deal evaluation, portfolio reviews, and strategic technical discussions.
Leadership of a tenured technical team: VP of Engineering, Engineer, and Senior Engineering/Data Analyst. Ownership of the standards for quality, organization, and documentation the team operates against.
Candidate Profile
15+ years of upstream oil and gas experience, ideally across operator, engineering consultancy, and an active A&D or investment-side technical role.
Deep knowledge of the lower-48 resource basins, producing cash flow analysis, and development drilling performance and economics.
Strong grounding in reserves and PRMS, asset model build/QA/QC and defense, and direct experience with field operations and well performance diagnostics.
An engineer's engineer. Technically deep across reservoir engineering and economics. Organized, thorough, and grounded in the data.
A clear communicator. Brevity by default. Summarizes complex work crisply and holds up under detailed review.
A trusted right hand. Aligned with the CEO's direction. Reliable and provides confidence that work has been evaluated, checked, and properly summarized.
A capable people manager. Leads and develops the technical team. Comfortable engaging operating partners directly to ask questions and build rapport.
Conviction. Holds disciplined valuations under deal pressure; frames uncertainty as risk and communicates in probabilities.
Built for the deal treadmill. A&D evaluation is high-volume and low-hit-rate by design; many opportunities won't advance to a transaction when disciplined valuations come in below seller expectations. Brings genuine enthusiasm to each evaluation and maintains the emotional steadiness to keep at it.
Aligned in values. Low ego, high trust, easy to work alongside day to day.
